Important information: Before installing this new Macbook SSD, you need to upgrade your Mac to macOS 10.13 High Sierra (or 10.14 Mojave or 10.15 Catalina) or higher. These operating system versions include EFI firmware updates for Mac. Without the update, the new SSD will not be recognized. (If the original SSD has been installed with macOS 10.12 or earlier, the new SSD will not be recognized after replacement.) 3 ways to format (delete) the Macbook SSD and install macOS Installation of a Time Machine fuse 1. Make a backup from your Mac to a USB drive before installation. Select "Disk Utility" from "macOS Utilities", delete the USB drive, open Time Machine, select the backup disk "USB drive" and start the backup. 2. Upgrade your Mac to macOS 10.13 High Sierra or higher macOS. 3. Insert the new SSD into the Mac, connect the backup USB drive. 4. Boot and press the "Option" button during startup, select "backup drive". 5. Select "Disk Utility" from "macOS Utilities", delete the new MacBook SSD. 6. Select "Restore from Time Machine Backup" from "macOS Utilities", follow the steps and wait for installation. Internet Recovery (Some Macs may be too old to support this installation method. Please try two other methods.) 1. Upgrade your Mac to macOS 10.13 or later. Then insert the new SSD into the Mac. 2. Boot and press "Command+Option+R", then connect to the WiFi network. 3. Select "Disk Utility" from "macOS Utilities", format (delete) the new SSD. 4. Select "reinstall macOS" from the "macOS utilities" and follow the steps to install macOS on the new SSD. Create USB bootable installer 1. Download macOS 10.13 or later to create a bootable installer on a USB drive. 2. Upgrade your Mac to macOS 10.13 High Sierra or a newer version. Then insert the new SSD into the Apple computer. 3. Connect the bootable USB installer to the Mac, start the Mac and press the options button during startup, select "install macOS xxx" and click on it. 4. Select "Disk Utility" from "macOS Utilities" and format (delete) the new SSD. 5. Select "reinstall macOS" from "macOS Utilities", follow the steps to install macOS on the new SSD.
